‘Power’ by J-Priori is an Experimental Instrumental Track that Pulls You Through Its Different Melodies at a Breakneck Pace

Power’ by J-Priori is a kinetic, quick-paced experimental instrumental track that moves through roaring changes of pace in a relatively short amount of time. The soundscape can be split into three parts. An opening that rushes at you as a roaring pace, a melodic mid-section and a synth-heavy burnt, quiet twist ending.

‘Power’: Breakneck Melodies

‘Power’ begins with guitars that immediately set a breakneck pace, fuelling this immediate, pacing sense of anticipation. One that feels as though you’ve just been pushed into a deep, rushing pool of water. Or a roaring river in heavy rain.

Sound seems to intensify and amplify almost immediately, almost as though the percussion and the melodies over it are pushing to their very limits. This roaring swell soon calms, into a melodic flow that seems to relax into itself without letting up on the song’s quick-pace sprint.

‘Power’ then moves into synths that sound charred, burnt and stretched to their very limits. This while allowing the song to slowly calm down, percussion loosening and melodies changing in rhythm. This part helps us enter a wind-down pace, quick yet unyielding.

The song only settles on a short piano melody that acts like a full-stop, putting an end to a sentence with many twists and turns.

‘Power’ by J-Priori is a song that feels like an energising sprint, full of turns that seem wild yet melodic. There’s some sense to the madness, with momentary bursts of clarity orienting us to the song’s rhythm and melodies before we have to set off at a running pace again.

An energetic, immersive free-fall.
