Recently, GINAxC, a young and ardent singer and songwriter, released a powerful electronic alt-pop delight, ‘Like a Snake’. We asked her all about the latest release, and here’s what she says:
GINAxC:
1. What was your inspiration behind creating “Like a Snake”?
When I created Like a Snake, I wanted something laid-back and sensual—yet still danceable. I started by making a loop in FL Studio, then just listened to it on repeat while writing lyrics. It was like watching a scene from a movie play out in my head. I described what I saw and felt as if I were narrating the moment. Once the lyrics were ready, I recorded a rough vocal track over the loop and sent it to a producer, who built the final production around it.
2. What is your creative process like?
I draw inspiration from life itself. There’s so much happening around us—if we just look up from our screens and start to really feel again. Often, I start with an emotion, either something I’ve experienced or something someone close to me has felt. From there, I begin to write while humming melodies at the same time. Sometimes I’m almost too honest in my writing, and other times it’s more like a puzzle with hidden clues throughout the lyrics. Occasionally, a beat or loop sparks my creativity too. But for me, staying true and real in the lyrics is one of the most important things.
Before returning to music, I expressed myself through painting, writing novels, and even dabbling in theater—so creativity has always been at the core of how I live.
3. Who is your biggest role model in the music industry? Do you take inspiration from random scenarios and events, or do you take inspiration from bigger pictures of life?
I don’t have a specific role model in the music industry—I prefer to look inward. Of course, I’m influenced in subtle ways by everything I hear and see, but I try to stay grounded in my own artistic voice. Inspiration can come from random moments or deeper truths, but either way, I believe it’s the small things that often hold the most meaning.
What should your fans look forward to next? What’s in store for them?
My new single Secret Little World was just released on April 17—it’s a sweet yet mysterious summer pop track. Up next is Dopamine Rush, a sultry, hyped-up electro-pop song dropping on May 16. After that, I have a lot in the works, but I’m trying not to rush things like I used to. I also have a few live shows planned here in Sweden this summer, and I’m truly excited to connect with my audience face to face. It’s going to be something special.
According to you, what is the purpose of your art, if any? Or do you believe in ‘art for art’s sake’?
As one of my main characters, Maxi, says in my novel The Forbidden Colours of Ofelia:
“L’art pour l’art”.
Creating instead of suffering. Suffer to create. Just convert the energy into something that can be enjoyed and understood by the world.
That pretty much sums it up. Art is how I process and reflect life. It’s about leaving a mark, but it’s also just about being. There’s no right or wrong. Just… embrace it, embrace it.
