This definite Leonard Cohen vibe, a French singer-songwriter with brusqueness in his voice is my latest music crush. Coming across Romain Gutsy at this point made me question my dearth of song hunting in the last few years. Especially because such an amazing classy country jazzy folk singer-songwriter co-existing on the same timeline without my knowing. Romain Gutsy and his latest number ‘Eloisa’ is the track you would love to have on your playlist this turn of Equinox.

‘Eloisa’ feels like falling autumn leaves. Romain reminisces on a love story whose season is about to meet an end but with hopes of flourishing again in the next spring. ” What do you think about the next life, should we plan meeting again? I wouldn’t mind spending some time, with you, and you…Even if our two paths don’t cross, I’ll never think we’ve loved in vain. And for now my dearest Love, there’s nothing there we can’t go see.”
‘Eloisa’ is nostalgic and playful, the background score keeps the feet tappy. The storytelling has a beautiful flow, an enchanting fusion of drama love, married love, and god love. The song is a picture drawn by the warm hum of acoustic guitar, double bass, and a trumpet or saxophone, leaving me guessing. The music feels both intimate and expansive, drawing from a deep well of personal stories and being displayed to an audience in a dreamy Parisian Cafe.

Romain’s voice is gravelly, and seasoned like a life that has experienced many seasons. A voice that can get stuck in the head, especially because of the texture that comes from a French tongue singing English songs. Gutsy and his country-folk-jazzy numbers are a delight to the ears. Since finding his music, I’m hooked and the playlist is on loop. His style is eclectic, carefree, and witty without a doubt. His profile mentions his influence by Jacques Brel, Leonard Cohen, and Nina Simone, and that Romain Gutsy is an authentic craftsman writing songs for God and The Devil with the knack of finding humour in tragedy and drama in the mundane. Which I absolutely vouch for.
