Spotify Reassures Users : Addressing App Crashes, Search Failures, and Streaming Issues

Spotify users across the globe faced major disruptions on Wednesday, as tens of thousands reported that the app was not functioning properly.

Spotify users across the globe faced major disruptions on Wednesday, as tens of thousands reported that the app was not functioning properly. According to outage-tracking site Downdetector, more than 48,000 users worldwide reported problems, with a sharp peak around 1:30 PM BST in the UK.

Users cited various issues including failed searches, unresponsive interfaces, and the inability to stream music. Many noted that while downloaded songs could still be played offline, core functions like artist browsing and music discovery were down. The search feature, in particular, returned an error message stating “something went wrong,” along with a refresh option that offered no fix.

Spotify confirmed the outage on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating that it was aware of the problem and was actively investigating. The company also clarified that there was no evidence of a security breach, addressing concerns that the disruption might be hack-related.

The Sweden-based streaming giant, which serves over 675 million users globally, told the BBC that the issue with the search function had been resolved and that an update was being deployed to users.

The outage has frustrated users around the world, with many taking to social media to express how the interruption affected their gym sessions, commutes, and study routines. Both the mobile app and the web player were affected, making this one of Spotify’s most significant service disruptions in recent history.

Spotify is continuing to roll out fixes as it works to fully restore functionality.
