Legendary rock band Guns N’ Roses is touted to perform in India on May 17th in Mumbai. The band has had their fair share of freedom, flair, controversies-with some great music. While the line up has changed along the years several times, there is a spirit to the band that will never change. The excess of rock n’ roll.
Guns N’ Roses had a skyrocketing into fame which no other band could boast of. Their first album Appetite for Destruction went ballistic, almost every song ranking on the billboard charts. They had made history, and each of the band members were characters. No, really.
From Slash’s iconic top hat, to Axl Rose’s whirlwind life as a rockstar, they brought the 90s spirit in full swing. Though they have released only 6 albums (one of them being short enough to be a Instagram post)-they have been a fan favourite and had some hardcore fans even through their low years. Trust me, there were many. Enter-Chinese Democracy.

Here we go through 10 underrated songs from the band that don’t get enough love. Check out the list and make sure you have a listen for the deep cuts they might whip out anytime:
Pretty Tied Up
From the album Use Your Illusion II, the band bring some serious fusion into this one. It packs a punch, has a different scale that worked for cool experimentation. The sitar is heard almost throughout the song, having a punk push. Check it out here:
Breakdown
From the same album (because it’s the best one), this one has a country opening style with a brilliant piano opening. Axl Rose sounds at his best, while guitar tones and solos are incredible in this epic song. Pity they don’t treat audiences to this experience more often:
Anything Goes
The debut album shattered minds. Anything Goes is one song that doesn’t get enough love, for sure. The riff is too catchy to miss, Slash shines on this song, and the band’s early year fire burns bright in the composition. Guns N’ Roses, long live the quintessential band logo:
Think About You
A guitar haven for sure. The speed of the song, with the unique chorus and tones used, make it a definite stand-out number. The man with the top hat and aviators knows what the world is going to witness with their eyes and ears-and capitalizes on his performance.
Coma
One of the heaviest riffs from the band you might hear. From Use Your Illusion I, the band brings a C4 to a barn and lets it all loose, for a song that has definitely inspired some metal bands. It is a kick-ass rhythm with really different vocals from Axl Rose. Not for everyone, but a treat in melodies without doubt:
Prostitute
We have to tip our hats off for the bucket. From the Buckethead years, Chinese Democracy has a very different touch in the music made and composed. Piano heavy, Prostitute is a deep, moving single with Axl Rose’s voice clearly being held up by tech. Substance abuse is a great teacher, isn’t it? Doesn’t diminish the power the song carries:
Rocket Queen
Let’s give Steven Adler his flowers. The drummer has been the backing for some of the greatest radio rock numbers ever. Rocket Queen has a great groove, and melodies that overlap to make another underrated riff to learn. Guitar players, please back me up on this one-for Slash is burning a hole in my brain with his performance here. Rarely played live, this is what rock can do for you:
So Fine
I remember saying this is the best album for a reason. The band was at their creative heights, and I don’t care for the excess of drugs and booze. An emotional ballad in ways, it just works out so well in a song like this. The weight of the piano carries the unique progression and philosophical lyrics to another realm:
Locomotive
An incredible sonic experience. This is more than a song, this is Slash at his real best in composing. He masters the tone, and how the guitar speaks to the amp. You don’t hear Axl’s voice for a long time, and that shows you what Guns N’ Roses are just with the rhythm power that the band can carry. Royalty being given the respect they deserve:
Better
I’m going to add a Chinese Democracy song in the end of the list to piss off purists even more. This was more of a pop rock attempt from the band, but was a welcome breath of fresh air when you’re listening to the album in one go. The riff at the chorus is quite kickass, and you can hear Buckethead going batshit in parts, wherever he can. The band must have rubbed off on him:
So there you go, some underrated cuts from the legendary band. Mahalaxmi Race Course Road is going to have a test in Patience for sure, the band is notorious for their delays. Even in their album releases. Either way, if you’re able to go, let us know what you expect them to play as well!

Self professed metalhead, moderately well read. If the music has soul, it's whole to me. The fact that my bio could have ended on a rhyme and doesn't should tell you a lot about my personality.
