Bloodlin3 is an independent music group made up of three brothers, 2Severe, Reinman Quiji, and Mallachi, hailing from El Paso, TX, and Paducah, KY. Their sound blends influences from iconic artists like Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Tech N9ne, Eminem, and Three 6 Mafia. Known for their homage to 90s hip-hop, they’ve developed a fresh, contemporary twist on the genre on their latest track, “Situations” — keep reading for my thoughts!
Taking a back-to-roots approach with their lyrical delivery, “Situations” shines with its ability to get complex rhyme schemes across while retaining enough swagger and good songwriting. From the start of the track, there’s energy, there’s charm and atmosphere, with Bloodlin3’s signature dark hip-hop sound laid atop a delightfully 2000s Tech N9ne style beat that hits high marks in the groove department. While the synths in the background lay a solid foundation to the atmosphere, the bass is down low and rumbles just enough to tickle your eardrums. The hi-hats have great bounce and keep swift pace with the rest of the beat, while the kicks and snares form the metronomic pulse to “Situations”.
The vocal delivery is straight no-nonsense business that incorporates fast rapped sections with slower choruses and pre-chorus sections that keep the mix a dynamic blend of energies. The use of ad-libs and organic sound design throughout the track is also tasteful, keeping the theme of the track cohesive.

The mixing and mastering on “Situations” is tight and exceptionally well-controlled, with a wide atmosphere that still manages to focus the energy of the track to the centre, as is the norm with a hip-hop track. The vocal mixing lends quite a bit of power down low, and suitably to the vocal textures of the rappers on the track. The mastering is balanced, striking the chord between detail, precision, and loudness and aggression — overall, super well executed!
There’s much to appreciate about “Situations” by Bloodlin3 — from start to end, there’s much to love about the track. Whether you’re a seasoned audiophile or a seasoned hip-hop fan (or both?), this track has good to offer to everybody. Take a listen to the track here!
