Hailing from Manchester, Nickon Faith is a boundary-pushing multi-genre producer and DJ who has been crafting his unique sound since 2015. Recognized by Mixmag for his debut album “Circumambient,” Nickon is poised as a standout artist for 2023, celebrated for his lush etheric soundscapes and energetic grooves that have resonated beyond the North. With a reputation for pushing creative boundaries, he continues to redefine spaces for artists influenced far beyond the mainstream, showcasing his prowess on his latest release, “Signs”– keep reading for my thoughts!
The opener to the album is “Signs”, the title track; and from the first second, it’s clear to us that Nickon is here to make us groove and dance; from the gentle synth intro, to the drop; there is dance house written all over this track; and Axelle’s vocals yield a nice top-end to the song, while she explores her singing prowesses. The drop is also filled with chopped vocals that yields quite a nice, stuttery vibe to the track, and “Signs” sets the tone for the rest of the album quite well.

Next is “Love”, a delight to listen to for those who dig the bass in their headphones; and it does not disappoint; there is atmosphere, there is ethereality; and there is power in the mix. Nikon’s trademark experimentation with vocal chops continues; and the result is a groove that is infectious. The interlude between the two drops is marked by a sweet, synth section that lets us explore the sound design in more depth; and here, it’s layered, clean, and deep. There is clear separation between all the elements, yet an unmistakable sense of harmony and togetherness in the elements that keeps everything together and cohesive.

“Nothing State”, takes the atmosphere to the next level altogether; with sky-high reverbs the size of an arena; and the pulse of the track is this fiery low-end that makes grooving almost second nature. I kid you not, it is borderline Herculean to not close your eyes and shuffle in your seat when this song comes on. The fourth track, “Nothing (I Want You)” wraps up the house sound of this album rather well and presents it to us in a nice, palatable package that rounds out the album rather nicely.
The production, as I have praised in heaps, is great. The melodic angle does not disappoint, either, with great harmonies, progressions, and control in the energy levels throughout each track on “Signs”. The mix, too, is clear, powerful, and well-orchestrated; with a great mix of technical horsepower and creativity; and it, overall, makes for an exceptionally well-produced album. Bravo!
