‘Control’ by FAERYS is an alternative rock track with electronic elements that uses its synths and vocals to bolster and empower its narrators and listeners. Bright in its deepness, the song’s lyrics feed into this frenzy of ambition, with two voices offering different perspectives on the experience.
The song begins with quick-paced male vocals and guitars that urge us to keep our heads down and follow the beat. The female vocal later emphasises this sense of vulnerability that comes with driving on this road towards ambition.

‘Control’: Two Voices in Want Of
‘Control’ feels propelled by bright electronic rhythms and distinct voices. Its melodies are deep and dynamic, keeping us (the listener) locked in a specific headspace. Quick-paced and driven, the first vocals on the track feel pretty determined, keeping pace with the soundscape’s rhythms every time they pace with them.
The song then introduces this different voice, that feels like it is contemplating its path. It could stray, it could not. But it doesn’t keep pace with the melody, holding onto its questioning and contemplative energy.
‘Control’ oscillates from driven ambition, that is quick and locked in. “…Take it from the top, don’t breathe or you’ll miss a beat…”. But this is quickly undercut by the vulnerable, questioning vocal almost countering, “…hey, there’s all these doubts in my mind…”.
“…You got me thinking that I’m not bound for this life…”.
‘Control’ by FAERYS reflects this fight for control, engaging with this constant build. It seems to show us that drive and doubt have to coexist, to co-create this interesting synergy that drives creativity. Creativity, movement and action are all driven by both.
All this makes for an engaging, bright and addictive listen.
