Akhil OSO Revives a Revolution: Mixing Beats, Bars, and Bold Calls to Action
Akhil, known for his electrifying stage presence and his knack for blending Indian culture with modern music, brings something special to the table. Simon Go Back is a bold call to action, reviving a slogan that once united a nation against colonial rule. But this isn’t just about history; it’s about now. Akhil is ringing the bell for a generation that’s lost its way, urging them to find pride in their roots instead of dreaming of the next flight out. “I’ve started seeing a lot of people who just want to get away from India as early as they can,” he tells us.
Your latest release is a bit different from your previous works as it has a more political angle to it. What made you take this approach?
“Through this song, I wanted to evoke the spirit of unity that at one point of time brought the whole country together to overthrow the British Raj. I want us to understand that we come from a space of unity, not division. I feel like this generation and the younger ones are losing their pride in being an Indian.”
Akhil OSO talks about the Indian Hip-Hop scene and his biggest influences
The rapper mentions that hip-hop was his calling, and boy, does he answer it. You can feel the grit and authenticity in every bar.
What got you into hip-hop music? Tell us about your greatest influences?
I feel like Hip hop was a natural progression for me – I did music in a ton of different genres and played a few instruments but hip hop has always been my calling.
Performing for a long time I realised I was doing it in a cookie cutter manner and when I figured out how to speak my truth and make my impact in culture hip hop was the answer.
He admits that his musical journey was diverse—dabbling in different genres and instruments—but hip-hop was where he found his voice.
How has the Indian hip-hop scene been treating you? Give us an inside peak into the world of Indian indie hip-hop.
The scene amongst most rappers in karnataka has been great, there seems to be a strong movement happening individually in each state in the south and a larger union amongst north Indian states. I’m looking forward to all these scenes melting into one space of open listening and collaboration. A good merge of cultures
Karnataka’s hip-hop scene is brewing something big, and this verse-spitter is right at the center of it. He’s all about bringing the South and North together, creating a melting pot of cultures and sounds. Imagine the power of that collaboration! Akhil’s vision goes beyond just making hits; he’s crafting a narrative, building a bridge between past and present, tradition and modernity.
Weekly Drops, Dream Collaborations, and an EP to Watch For
And let’s not forget his ambitions. Akhil isn’t just thinking local; he’s got his sights set on global stages. He wants to drop a new track every week for a year, tagging none other than Russ in a quest for collaboration. It’s like watching a musical love letter unfold in real-time. Plus, with an EP on the horizon inspired by legends like The Alchemist, Tyler, the Creator, and Earl Sweatshirt, Akhil is poised to take over your playlist—and your mind.
Any aspiration for an EP or an album in the near future? What may your fans expect next after Simon Go Back?
My whole goal is to do an EP First, instrumentals inspired by the alchemist, tyler the creator and earl sweatshirt and i also have a vision for an album but that will include a few Indian and western orchestras so i’m going to hold off till i have a label to support that budget.

Simon Go Back is more than a song; it’s a statement, a shout-out to every Indian who’s ever felt disconnected from their heritage.
So crank up this new banger and let Akhil OSO remind you where you come from—and where we’re all headed. Because in a world that’s constantly trying to pull us apart, Akhil’s music is the glue we didn’t know we needed.
