Nathan Jarrelle has dedicated years to refining his style as a Christian rap artist, aspiring to become one of the standout talents in the realm of Hip-Hop. His music seamlessly fuses modern worship elements with contemporary Hip-Hop; bringing a sound that finds itself influenced by modern trap-based hip-hop, yet layering smart rhyming schemes to create powerful narratives; keep reading for my thoughts on “Desires”, his latest single!
The intro to the song is laden with pads and synths that immediately give it a bit of an RnB sound that I would liken to numbers from people like Travis Scott on ASTROWORLD. As the bars kick in, Nathan finds himself rhyming almost perfectly to the meter, having just enough microtime and swing for the overall sound to come out organic, and enjoyable. There is also great use of adlibs here, serving to accentuate important parts of the verses, as he brings forward themes of gratitude and faith.

The hook has a rather catchy and magnetic quality to it that, for the lack of a better term, is just straight bars (if you will excuse my punning); this is complemented rather well by the production with great bounce on the hats and the rest of the percussion department, as well.
One thing that is worth talking about separately about “Desires” is the way that the track is mixed. There is excellent mid-range control, which helps keep the whole sound together and cohesive for the entirety of the runtime of the song, which is something I quite enjoyed. The synths and the space created in the background also serve to accentuate the power and the drive of “Desires” quite well.
