The highly anticipated new song from The Smile, titled “Bending Hectic,” has finally been released. After premiering the track at the Montreux Jazz Festival last year, the trio decided to record the studio version at the iconic Abbey Road Studios in London. Renowned producer Sam Petts-Davies, known for his work with artists like Thom Yorke, Radiohead, and Frank Ocean, took on the role of producer for the song. Additionally, the London Contemporary Orchestra lent their expertise by providing the captivating strings for the track.
“Bending Hectic” marks the first single by The Smile since their debut album, “A Light for Attracting Attention,” which was released last year. Interestingly, the band chose not to include the song on their live album from the Montreux Jazz Festival.
Sam Petts-Davies has a long-standing history of collaboration with Radiohead, dating back to the mid-2010s when he served as a recording engineer on Jonny Greenwood’s project “Junun.” Since then, he has continued his work with Radiohead, contributing to projects such as the unused James Bond theme song “Spectre,” the critically acclaimed album “A Moon Shaped Pool” in 2016, and the retrospective compilation “OK Computer OKNOTOK 1997 2017.” Petts-Davies has also made notable contributions to Thom Yorke’s “Suspiria” soundtrack and Frank Ocean’s “Blonde,” among others.
