Tore Ylwizaker, the longtime keyboardist for the renowned Norwegian band Ulver, passed away on the night of his 54th birthday, August 16th. The band announced his death via social media, although the cause of death has not been disclosed.
In a heartfelt statement, Ulver paid tribute to their bandmate of nearly three decades: “It is with black holes in our hearts we have to inform you that our brother for over nearly thirty years, Tore Ylwizaker, is dead. He passed on in the night of 16 August, his 54th birthday. It is all too much to take in at the moment. We will return as soon as we have collected ourselves. Rest in peace, dearest friend. We love you, forever. ULVER.”
Ylwizaker joined Ulver in 1997, making his debut on their 1998 album Themes From William Blake’s The Marriage of Heaven and Hell. His arrival marked a significant shift in the band’s musical direction, steering them from their black metal roots towards a more electronic and avant-garde sound, particularly evident on the 2000 album Perdition City.
Tore also engineered, produced and mixed records by Ihsahn, Mayhem, Star Of Ash and Arcturus, among others.
