American instrumental progressive metal band Animals as Leaders will be playing in India this August as part of their Parrhesia Tour. For this four city tour, the band will play at Delhi NCR, Kolkata, Mumbai and Bengaluru on 20th, 22nd, 24th and 25th of August respectively. This is the first time the genre-bending prog trio will be playing in India since 2013; after 11 years.
The band consisting of Tosin Abasi (lead guitar), Javier Reyes (rhythm guitar), and Matt Garstka (drums) had made their India debut at Bangalore Open Air metal festival on July 2013. The tour is being organised by Skillbox in association with X-Ray Touring and Rocknation. They are yet to announce the venues.

Animals as Leaders: Past studio albums
Animals as Leaders had released the album “Parrhesia”, their latest album till date, on the 25th of March, 2022. The band had become popular with the release of their self titled debut album back in April 2009 which received mostly positive reviews. Metalsucks.net had called it the “12th best album of 2009”. In 2011, the band released their second studio album “Weightless” which had an ambient-ish soundscape. This was also the first album to feature a trio line-up instead of just Abasi’s guitar with real drums as well as some programmed drum parts. 2014’s “The Joy of Motion”, their third studio album was a mix of prog metal and elements of electronic, Latin and dance pop. Debuted at number 23 on the Billboard 200, this was the band’s highest position on the chart.
“The Madness of Many” released in 2016 was also a remarkable album with lots of new influences on their sound. Whether it be “Arithmophobia”, with a distinct sitar-like influence or “The Brain Dance”, with the acoustic guitar and jazz influences. The recent album “Parrhesia” shows the band’s sheer brilliance when it comes to their craft. Take the track “Monomyth” for example, with the sick grooves and menacing harmony!
Although billed as the “Parrhesia” tour, the band is mostly likely to play other songs from their discography as well. Animals as Leaders will also be playing at Bristol as a part of the much acclaimed ArcTanGent festival while they are on their way to India. Later in October this year, the band is supposed to do a US tour celebrating 10 years of “The Joy of Motion” supported by Australian instrumental act Plini.
