Ex-Slipknot Jay Weinberg joins LA thrashers Suicidal Tendencies

Former Slipknot drummer Jay Weinberg has now revealed that he has joined crossover-thrash band Suicidal Tendencies. He will also be touring with the band this year.

Slipknot’s letting go of their drummer

Last year December, 10 years since Weinberg joined, Slipknot had shared an official statement on social media about their “creative decision” of parting with Weinberg as they were “intent on evolving”. Weinberg had revealed online that he was “heartbroken and blindsided” by the decision.

Suicidal Tendencies current lineup includes Mike Muir on lead vocals, Dean Pleasants and Ben Weinman on guitars and Tyre Trujillo, son of Metallica bassist Rob Trujillo on bass. Weinberg has already worked with Mike Muir and Rob Trujillo for the funk metal collective Infectious Grooves. Suicidal Tendencies has featured Greyson Nekrutman, Brandon Pertzborn, and the legendary Dave Lombardo among its recent drummers.

Weinberg’s new beginnings

Recently Weinberg took to Instagram to share his excitement about joining Suicidal Tendencies with fans. The post read, “When I think of the culture and community of heavy music that I’ve loved and considered my creative home for 20 years, I think of Suicidal Tendencies: a foundational pillar and source of inspiration ever since I fell in love with punk, metal, and hardcore. Having toured and played shows together all over the world, I’ve been so fortunate to become friends with my musical heroes who have been a part of this band’s incredible history. It’s an absolute honor and privilege to play with Suicidal Tendencies, and I can’t wait to start this incredibly exciting new chapter in just one week! See you all in the pit!”

Weinberg is all set to perform with Suicidal Tendencies with two back to back shows in Japan. First at Osaka on March 14th and then Chiba on March 16th. The band is scheduled to play at the Punk in the Park Pre-Party in San Francisco as well. No Values Festival in Pomona, California will see them perform with bands like Social Distortion and Iggy Pop! Suicidal Tendencies has a number of dates lined up for June and July through US and Europe. Click here for the complete list of tour dates!
