Closing out the roll call of winners for this year are Rick Astley, who won the Outstanding Achievement in Music Award; post-punk group IDLES, who won Best Live Act; and Soul II Soul, who won the Innovation in Music Award.
Talking of the honour, David Gilmour said, “It’s an amazing honour to receive the O2 Silver Clef Award. Music is its own language, and it’s great to see Nordoff and Robbins using it to actually transform people’s lives. What they do is a reminder of music’s ability to bring people together and bridge divides.”
David Gilmour joins a prestigious list of past winners, which includes musical icons such as Iron Maiden, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Rod Stewart, The Rolling Stones, and his past group Pink Floyd.
Nordoff and Robbins CEO Sandra Schembri was excited to make this year’s announcement:
“We are delighted to have such legendary artists on the shortlist to win at this year’s O2 Silver Clef Awards.”. Their donation, alongside the generosity of the music industry, enables us to react to the growing demand for our services in the light of rising costs and donations decreasing. It takes over £8 million a year to run our charity, and this funding is vital in enabling us to provide life-changing music therapy to those who need it most across the UK.”
Schembri described the work of the charity and how music therapy could be employed to unlock memory for those with dementia, offer expressive channels for individuals who have autism, and comfort individuals with mental illness.
This year’s O2 Silver Clef Awards is set to be a starry night with its blue carpet greeting, courtesy of Carrie and David Grant. Live auctions of exclusive memorabilia and experiences will also take place during the evening to raise vital money for the charity.
Celebrating its 50th year, the O2 Silver Clef Awards continues to be a beacon of support for Nordoff and Robbins, a testament to the healing and uniting power of music.
