When it comes to rock music, the first instrument that comes to mind is none other than the guitar, and over so many decades of several bands and artists shaping this groundbreaking musical genre through their music, we, the fans of rock, consider certain notable guitar players as the iconic legends for a lifetime. So, when we talk of legendary guitar players, the list remains absolutely incomplete without Jimmy Page, the guitarist of the all-time legendary rock band Led Zeppelin.
Tracing back to the old times, when Led Zeppelin was recording their debut studio album, Jimmy’s choice of acoustic guitar was a mid-60s Gibson SJ-200, a defining instrument that we still hear across several tracks of that iconic rock album. So, in the present day, Gibson is extremely proud to announce the recreation of this historic gem of an acoustic guitar in close collaboration with Page, which is responsible for these legendary recordings and performances in two different models, with the labels Jimmy Page 1964 SJ-200 and Jimmy Page 1964 SJ-200 Collector’s Edition.
The Jimmy Page 1964 SJ-200
There are 100 limited-edition models of the Jimmy Page 1964 SJ-200, and the process of its recreation involves several intricate inputs from Jimmy Page himself, starting from the instrument’s wear and sonic character to its playability, as well as the Cherry Tea Sunburst Finish. The craftsmen of these 100 guitars are the expert luthiers of the Gibson Custom Shop in Bozeman, Montana, and the credit goes to Murphy Lab for artistically aging the instruments. Besides that, these guitars come with a gold Tune-O-Matic Bridge with nylon saddles and an SJ-200 body, which is a little deeper than a standard SJ-200 at the neck joint, contributing more to the sonic uniqueness of this beautiful guitar.
Featuring a highly flamed AAA maple at the back and sides, the top of this guitar boasts AAA Sitka spruce, along with a 3-piece flamed maple neck capped with an Indian rosewood fretboard. Another surprise is that the Soundhole Label of each of these 100 guitars comprises Jimmy Page’s signature by hand. Also, for those who are curious about the contents in the Gibson Hardshell case that comes with the famous Zoso logo, well you get to receive a Gibson “The Garden” Vintage-style Strap, Zoso Certificate of Authenticity Booklet, along with an additional Tune-O-Matic Bridge with Gold Saddles that lets you interchange the bridge when you feel the need to.
The Jimmy Page 1964 SJ-200 Collector’s Edition
The Jimmy Page 1964 SJ-200 Collector’s Edition is not very different from the Jimmy Page 1964 SJ-200 in terms of specifications. But what makes this Collector’s Edition version unique and distinct from the other variant? Any guesses?
Well, other than the similar technical characteristics of the two guitars, the Collector’s Edition stands apart because firstly, unlike the other variant’s limit of 100 pieces, this edition only has a limit of 50 pieces, and believe it or not, Jimmy Page has put his hands on each one of these 50 guitars personally to play and examine them with various tunings and by playing some of the hit songs from his legendary catalogue of recordings. It does not end here because the biggest surprise of the Collector’s Edition lies in the fact that all these 50 guitars come with Jimmy Page‘s signature by hand on the headstock. So that is definitely something to cherish and own for a lifetime.
How much do these recreated variants of the Gibson Jimmy Page 1964 SJ-200 cost?
Well, a question that certainly bothers everyone, but no one actually gets the correct answers, and that question is about the price of such boutique, legendary, iconic guitars. Don’t worry, we will not disappoint you! So, as per the official website of Gibson, the Jimmy Page 1964 SJ-200 costs $12,999.00, and the Jimmy Page 1964 SJ-200 Collector’s Edition goes on for a whopping $19,999.00 quite understandably because, in the end, you cannot deny the fact that it comes with something that is perhaps more valuable than just what money can buy!
