‘Sueños’ by Dorbax is an Emotionally-Charged New Age Album that Takes the Listener on a Journey (Alternative/Instrumental)

Sueños’ by Dorbax is an 11-track piano-led new age instrumental album that takes us on a cascading journey from light to dark. Its piano melodies are bolstered by its strings, all of this in constant motion pulled in different directions by inertia.

It’s final track ‘Vida Mia’ is the only track with vocals on it. It pulls in all the emotions established in the tracks and giving them a new life.

‘Sueños’: Track-by-Track (Dreams, Nightmares & Life)

‘Sueños 1′- ‘Pesadilla (Sueños 1)’

The ‘Sueños’ movement as a whole layers in emotion with a sense of gravitas with halting piano melodies that feel deep. This that alternates from melodies with depth that are bolstered with strings to melodies that cascade upwards, funnelling and soaring soaring against the darkness.

1 introduces us to this cascade of emotions, building on expansive, emotionally charged melodies. On this establishing track, piano and string melodies weave around eachother, bouncingin cacscades before ending on what sounds like a deep, dark note.

2 pulls these melodies in a slightly different direction, stomping along like a ticking clock. The build climbs, showcasing a different side to the cascading melodies. This short song feels almost hopeful before we move onto the next.

On 3 the hopeful melodies feel a bit fuller, moving with a gravitas that has moved up an octave. Vocal harmonies that were introduced softly in the first track come back in with a bolstered force, full and whole.

This build on a simple piano melody feels heart-stoppingly emotional. Goosebump raising.

4 begins with strings that bring in this intense tension. The pianos here bolster this melody before cascading downwards. This highlighting a sense of darkness that feels like it pulls at you. The piano melodies here feel hurt in their vulnerability.

‘Pesadilla (Sueños 1)’ brings in ambient sounds and mic feedback that creates unease under what seem to be the first track of the album. It adds a new dimension to the track, that seems to be playing live, adding in a sense of distortion that makes the melodies that once felt lighter feel more intense and unhinged.

It acts like an inverse to the mood that’s been established so far, keeping pace with the dynamics of the melodies now with more intensity.

‘Sueños 6′- ‘Despertar’

6 takes on that darker, more intense mood, while bringing in this sense of vulnerability. This which juxtaposes intensity with bright, ascending piano melodies. The build in the emotion on this track feels as though it knots your stomach, allowing emotions to cascade with the pretty piano melodies that feels distorted because of a slight reverb on those notes.

7 holds in its melodies a lightness, warmth and sense of groundedness. The melodies attempt to to ground here, in the midst of distortion. This while teasing the powerful ballad at the end of the album with its melodies.

8 continues to ground the melodies in light, almost trotting as we make our way downwards. It holds with a gravitas that feels close to earned, brighter and more full. Pacing, cascading and more light & grounded.

9 feels uneasy and tremulous, with almost dramatic melodies sprinting upwards. These melodies build in intensity, pooling in a darkness that tries to pull the melodies downward. Weight and counter-weight, the melodies ground dowards but move upwards.

‘Despertar’ is a funnelling upward spiral, that retains the intensity of the last track and all the emotions that have been building so far. The result is a full, balanced sound that builds a third of the way before bursting into an expansive sound that feels like awakening.

It epic, open and ends on the downbeat.

‘Vida Mia’ and Conclusion

‘Vida Mia’ is a culmination of every emotion in the album, given voice in this powerful ballad. It’s chill-inducing vocal, with lyrics that read as intensely grateful and wholly devoted when translated from Spanish, capture the light and life that comes after grounding.

After this powerful explosion of vocal intensity, the pianos round out the melodies, adding this sense of finality to the album and its intense, spiralling journey.

Conclusion

‘Sueños’ by Dorbax tells a full story that feels grounded in intensity, emotion and mood. Its melodies are in constant, spiralling motion, tearing through the melodies with this sense of wholeness and gravitas. We move from dark confusion to grounded light within a few moments, experiencing the intensity of the melodies and narrative intensely.

Moving, Intense and an Experience.
