Prog rock band Space Remedy has ticked all the boxes for a rising act in the Indian independent music scene including an appearance at Music Mojo and Sofar Sounds. “As I’m Drowning” is the latest single from their soon-to-be-releasing album Delirious Days. Clocking in at just under 8 minutes, Space Remedy asks you to take a back seat and immerse yourself in this cathartic introspective experience. A brave call in today’s era of tik-tok length attention spans.

Originally starting as a project by vocalist and guitarist Shivam Khandelwal with the EP First Expedition, Space Remedy soon evolved into a full-fledged band. Formed in Bangalore in 2017, the current lineup features Abhilash Fulkar (guitar), Yuvraj Metrani (bass), Mukesh Muralidharan (keyboard), and Varun Dhir (drums), to craft a sound that blends immersive compositions with technical finesse.
The song deliberately takes its time to build, immersing the listener in a deep, atmospheric soundscape. As searing guitar leads cut through, the second half surges with intense guitar and synth riff sections before gradually fading into the (narrative and sonic) abyss. Shivam had written the lyrics inspired by a traumatic drowning incident he experienced. The song does convey a haunting experience, emotional turmoil to much sonic depth and technical brilliance.
Channeling pain into art, As I’m Drowning creates a narrative and it pulls you under with it. Its’ hypnotic ebb and flow echo bands like The Pineapple Thief or Porcupine Tree. If this single is any indication, Delirious Days will quite surely be a record to fully sink into.
