Irish guitar virtuoso Joe Hodgson is back after a four-year hiatus with an album titled Field of Redemption, and this track, ‘The Grass is Greener,’ is simply entralling. Joe Hodgson embarked on his solo journey with his first album Apparitions, after extensively performing with bands for many years. His first creative project met with wide international acclaim, following which he spent the next few years travelling, writing, and creating new music. Field of Redemption is a much-awaited collection from Joe, slated to be released in June this year. ‘The Grass is Greener’ and Shapeshifting are the dynamic double releases since 2020.

The track is an electrifying journey. It draws the listener in with a delicate acoustic melody before erupting into a mesmerizing electronic guitar fusion of melody and distortion. The rich, dynamic soundscape beautifully captures the ebb and flow of time. Musically mirroring the emotional swings between past and present, a theme that is powerfully brought to life in the accompanying video. The video of ‘The Grass is Greener’ showcases a quest to regain paradise lost, which deeply reverberates in Joe’s music.

Instrumental music in true description is definitionless. What gets confined with words, instrumentals remain uncaged. Joe Hodgson’s latest release, ‘The Grass Is Greener’, speaks a language that each soul gets to interpret in their own way, ultimately deciding whether the grass is truly greener. To me, it is.
