Nashville-based singer-songwriter WHIT has announced her latest namesake EP. Her first single is ‘Black and Blue’ and the track is currently gatecrashing the Music charts. This funky rock song is a post-heartbreak expression of anger and resentment from the failed relationship.

Sometimes there’s a strong urge in the human psyche to get revenge after a breakup from an intense relationship. Although the desire is animalistic and intends to harm, the matured instinct channels the energy into creativity. Either it creates a new evolved Self or poetry, a song, or in rare cases, both. WHIT’s ‘Black and Blue’ is a canvas flaunting her love for oneself more dearly, and her art that is a sweeter revenge.
WHIT’s presence in her video is eccentric, just like her voice. She’s got a ‘don’t mess with me’ energy and gives out a powerful aura. The storytelling is compelling, with lines that say, “Don’t come back home, I’ll have a backyard church choir, round that bonfire burning through every little memory of you! Like hell, you’d leave me black and blue.”

Meanwhile, the video is slick with dynamic visuals, perfectly complementing the single’s theme of heartache and resilience. With the heavy electric guitar and the drum set driving the rhythm, the song is a first-rate production by Andrew Baylis. WHIt’s entire EP will be out in another month, and it’s eagerly awaited.
