Cris Cap has released a new EP, “Unrequited,” featuring 6 songs.
The EP kicks off in such a smooth and fun way with the title track “Unrequited.” Featuring Anna Teers on vocals, the retro-inspired beats and synths just put a smile on your face from the start. Her commanding yet playfully sassy delivery is the perfect match. It’s got such a dope, jazzy flair, too, that really hooks you in. You can’t help but want to dance along, whether solo or with a partner. The musical interplay is so tight yet vibrant. It’s definitely going straight to my playlists – this is the kind of joyful, effortlessly cool jam I love to vibe to.

“Don’t You Cry” slows things down in all the right ways. Cris Cap pairs up with Tyla Raé here, and their vocals are insane – so rich and emotive. The R&B and electronic elements mesh so smoothly. Cris and Tyla play off each other’s delivery with such chemistry that it’s hard not to get drawn in by the call and response. When that chorus hits, all you can do is groove. Those ambient vocal layers in the background also deserve praise. They add so much texture and interest as the song ebbs and flows. There’s also this subtle sassiness that keeps things interesting. Between the killer vocals and lush production, it’s definitely one to get lost in.
“Howlin’ At The Moon” teams Cris up with Gary, and man, what a change of pace in all the best ways. That folk-pop-country vibe just puts a big grin on your face from the get-go. Between the optimistic riffs, crisp beats, and Gary’s velvety vocals, there’s no way not to feel uplifted listening. You can really hear the passion and craft behind every element. The guitar solo halfway through – takes things to another level. The pacing picks up after, too, but that melodic undertone remains, so it never loses its feel-good charm.

“Show My Love” pairs Cris up again with the phenomenal Tyla Raé. This one has such a chill, head-bopping groove to it that’s easy to vibe with. Tyla’s velvety yet sassy delivery is in perfect form once more. The keys layered throughout are a highlight, too – they add so much color. Diving into the lyrics, it’s clear this one tackles some deeper themes around love, forgiveness, emotional scars, and taking leaps of faith despite past hurts. Really resonates on that level. But the absolute standout for me has to be the sax solo nearing the end. As a jazz lover myself, it was pure goodness – so smooth and soulful, perfectly complementing the vibe.
“Angel In My Room” teams Cris Cap up with UGENE NGHT and let me just say – the funk is strong with this one! From the opening moments, you can’t help but move to the seriously addictive vibes. When UGENE’s vocals come in, it demands your full attention. The storytelling is superbly crafted, allowing Cris to personally recount a touching post-surgery experience being cared for by a nurse he saw as his angel. All the while, the instrumentation keeps the energy sky-high. From the sensual vocals to those vibrant riffs and beats, it’s impossible not to feel fully immersed in the experience being portrayed. You can tell so much heart went into both the lyrics and production.
What a way to bring this phenomenal EP to a close with “Wings of Love” featuring J. Burney. Right from the start, his gorgeous vocals had me completely transfixed. This one tugs at the heartstrings – it’s a letter of love and inspiration dedicated by Cris to his daughter. From the jazzy arrangement with undertones of soul to J.’s brilliant performance of Cris’ heartwarming narrative, every element is perfection. Lines like “When you fly into the skies/An amazing lady you’re gonna be” are so pure and touching. You can really feel the raw emotion pouring through. It leaves you fully moved by this intimate father-daughter moment now immortalized in song. It was the perfect choice to close out on such a tender yet celebratory note.
