The Dream Spiral is a Five-piece Indie Rock band based in Brisbane, Australia. They have been working together for years and have officially been releasing music since 2022. Their third single “Trigger To My Head” is a post-industrial rock track that is grungy and chaotic in all the right ways!

The percussion is a key element on the track; it is the backbone that keeps the song alive and it is what we are introduced to first. The bass-heavy drum is fast, hard-hitting and anthemic; making you want to stomp your feet to it. The click sounds of a machine flow in between the beats, feeling like a planned deviation. An electronic noise like that of being inside a vortex builds up and forms one of the other foundational elements on the track. The sonic palette is dripping with electronic sound effects and the eerie synth and horn-like tones only add to it. The overall flow is chopped-up, synthetic and extraterrestrial.

The vocals are layered, with the main track being followed along by a robotic and low-pitched voice. The melody is delivered in a monotonous and machine-like manner which makes sure that the differences in tune are not enunciated and highlighted. The track makes sure to take its pauses and keeps switching it up which prevents it from becoming repetitive. The bass guitar during the chorus and especially during the last section was one of my favourite elements on “Trigger to my Head”! The fact that one can’t hear the lyrics extremely clearly feels intentional and in tune with the grunge aesthetic. The post-apocalyptic and harsh sonic-palette leaves the listener unsettled.
