There used to be a time I used to wait for an incredible sound with the energy of Rammstein. Turns out all I needed to do was wait for a global catastrophe that birthed a phoenix. All rise for Mote, pioneering rocktronica with his new track, Bondage.
It isn’t the title you need to be focusing on, but the contents of that track. Using distorted guitar to pave the way, Mote uses a drum track on the background while singing over the layers. Like a cake, you get the whole taste only when you take a bite, and what an attack it is. As the song progresses, Mote shows off his arsenal of techniques, all escalating the song to a new peak.
Bondage is what happens when you minus the stage persona of Rammstein, focus on the tracks and interweave your individual sound with it to make an industrial sound that’s heavy. Sounding like Trent Reznor from NIN in many places, Mote makes sure the song is nothing but a roller coaster for a listener, constantly using the sonic space to experiment with his library of work.
A long way in style comparison from his hit track End This Ride, Bondage seems like a complete switch up all parts intentional and natural. It expresses a certain rage we’ve all felt during this time, the feeling that we’ve been imprisoned. Some choose to embrace the feeling to create a track as masterful as this.
