Comprising brothers Sean and Evan, The Listros, a Toronto-based alternative rock duo, possess a compelling and emotion-driven rhythm that captivates the listener with each note– on their debut single, “Into The Otherside”, they’ve supercharged the rock genre with a bang right out the gate– keep reading for my thoughts!
Their musical style is shaped by influential artists known for their experimental sounds, including Oasis, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Coldplay, Nine Inch Nails, Hans Zimmer, and more. Utilizing a creative writing process and unique music production, they manage to spin up rock music with a dark, ferocious spirit– which is the first thing that struck me when I started listening to “Into The Otherside”; and from the first second, there is no hesitation, no foreplay; they dive right in with their multitudes of instruments and elements that make this song feel not out of place on a platinum punk rock record even to this day.

The instrumentation on “Into The Otherside” is top-class; with the kind of grit and dry energy that envelops you in the mood of the song right from the very start. The fuzzy, distorted basses, the the vocals, as well as the buttery smooth riffing on the guitars, they all work together to make a song that gets all the fundamentals of good production right: great energy, great, distinctive identity, and above all else, an absolutely electric atmosphere.

The master show continues well beyond the runtime of the song, as I find myself hitting the repeat button more times than I have for a single song in a while; and that is a testament to the kind of soup these two cooked up on this song– delectable, really.
There’s no hiding behind the fact that “Into The Otherside” gets as good as debut rock singles can, and then some more; in fact, I’d argue that it raises the bar a teeny amount; and mind you, when I say rock singles on debut, I mean a list of which Duran Duran, “Planet Earth”, as well as Metallica, “Whiplash” are a part. Two thumbs up, no doubt. Check out the song here!
