Figuring out the optimal qualities and quotients of ambient flows is an abstract game especially because it can be anything you want it to be : as boundless as you want, as blurry as you like, and as formless as it can be. However, perception, imagination, and contemplative purpose anchors it. It shapes the feelings that form out of it and flows into the listener; dictating how it fills up a room or a mind for that matter. That’s the part that’s hard to retain as you go about composing ambiences.
Jake The Jeweler knows this game all too well. He finds a way to insert developments, drama, and daintiness into the forming frame without disturbing its purpose. It’s like the calm ocean, seemingly the same but ever changing. As it evolves outwards, it bubbles up into a transient sphere that you can cocoon in and live out your day in.

His latest EP, ‘Living Skyline’ traces the contours of thoughts and emotions, linking it creatively to the imaginative audience you might have in the city you live in. In the buildings, businesses, people, and roads you see everyday. The tracks are leaky, shimmering with a rainy day mist. Like a skyline that rises and dips, he normalizes the dynamism of energy level as it manifests in humans. Through all of the five tracks, you’ll realize that presence, for the artist, is as alive and momentous as time. This readily forms in all his tracks as well.

In ‘New Day’, the artist shapes a clean slate with neutral tonalities and mellow rhythms. Floating on it, you’ll feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere and also in the middle of everything. Perhaps, he aims at creating potential within it. ‘Unconscious Thought’ starts off with a chaotic smear, fuzzy and textured. It has a main sonic stem, which is marked constantly by slightly discordant undertones.
Listening to ‘Uptime (Downtime)’ is like watching a Timelapse of a blossoming flower. It flows outward from a focal point, rife with creativity, color, and openness. Once you reach the midway point, it levels out, into a plane that thrives in rest. You can almost imagine the soft pulsing monotonal surface thriving and rejuvenating before the cycle begins again.
‘Sometimes’, featuring Nabil Muquit, is sparked with jazz and soul sensibilities, expanding softly into a room of possibilities. ‘Wide Awake’ has a nocturnal quality to it. Shaped with darker tones, it is whimsical, curious, and playful. Just like an overactive mind that beats sleep out. One of the most pleasant soundscapes to journey through. Listen Now!
