‘ZTL’ by Gianfranco Malorgio is a haunting instrumental track, heavy with cinematic sounding synth and strings in the first half. This is followed by an seemingly structured section characterised with percussion and guitars. These two halves feel like they tell a mesmerising story. One that is dark, static, rigid and pacing with momentum all at once.

‘ZTL’: Static Momentum
Part I
‘ZTL’ begins with synths and strings that sound dark, lost and haunting. There’s a sense of emotion that feels so deep-rooted that it almost can’t be identified until later in the song. There’s a static sense of stillness, that feels dark and uneasy, with no momentum to propel it through.
This heavy mood is layered with a melancholic piano melody, which with deep guitars feels as though its digging to reach someplace calmer. Someplace that isn’t static and nebulous. The soundscape slowly finds itself at some sort of impasse, characterised by these disparate elements before melding into something thats packed and whole.
Part II
The second half of ‘ZTL’ feels incredibly different from the first. It does this with its percussion and guitars that add a new dimension to the song’s charged soundscape. This begins with whirling synths that begin to build a clear sense of momentum, that seems to almost force a sense of calm over the song’s mood.
The song moves from something nebulous to a mood that is moving towards an emotion that feels like it makes sense. Elements begin to fit together, with a subtle sense of calmness beginning to take hold.
‘ZTL’ by Gianfranco Malorgio moves from somewhere static and lost, to an emotional space pushing to be found. Its soundscape moves from a place of formation to a space that is moves with a rhythmic sense of forward momentum.
