Vanilla Franco is the musical moniker of Joey Quinn, who’s quickly making a name for himself with his brand of loud, uptempo, and hyped rock sounds. Bringing in the pow of loud, unapologetic hard rock together with the elements of grunge and hype pop-rock, he brings us his latest on his new album, “Traction”— keep reading for my thoughts!
Everything about this album is thrashy, unapologetic, confident and out there. From the uptempo beats and the thrashy crash cymbals on the opener, “Building Pressure” which immediately gets you moving and grooving, the tone for “Friction” is set from right the very beginning. Joey’s vocals shine through rather well as he sets the right segue into the second track, “Picnic”. This one is a nitch more downtempo as we’re taken through the persistently catchy rhythm guitar riffs and the catchy pre-chorus lines that stay with you for long after the song has ended, and the lone lead guitar in the background keeps a good pulse.

Make your way into “Good Time” and you’re exposed to a little bit more focus on the vocals, prepping you up, for well, hey, a good time; the drumming is tasteful, the synths catchy, and the listen fun and engaging. As we bring “Traction” to a close, some other standout tracks are “Learn Something” and “Planes Trains (Capitol Operational)”. All through the album, Vanilla Franco retains great energy and variety in the instrumentation, and the vocals.
The production of “Traction” is varied, dynamic, and layered. The rhythm guitars play the central role alongside the vocals, and throughout the album, there is a great blend of various elements that come together to yield a cohesive, welcoming sound to “Traction. The mix and master on this album are powerful, dynamic, and makes great use of space and energy in the sonic field to create a listening experience like few others. All in all, int contributes to a nice, welcoming listening experience.
So, all in all, “Traction”, by Vanilla Franco: This is the kind of album that gets the fundamentals of rock music right, and brings all its elements together in a way that remains with you even after the album has wrapped up. A pleasure to listen to, check out the album here!
