‘Amen’ by Francesca Pichierri is a Bold Alternative-Pop Statement that Brings out a New Side to the SingerSongwriter

Amen’ by singer-songwriter Francesca Pichierri is an alternative inde-pop track that takes on this funk edge. The track pokes fun at this sense of dual hypocrisy when it comes to keeping up appearances.

The soundscape takes on a lively groove, while our narrator hyperbolises familiar standards set on and offline. This to seemingly hold a mirror to the high standards we set for ourselves and seemingly kill ourselves over.

‘Amen’: Thought-Provoking Reflection

‘Amen’ sets its tone with a groovy melody that feels equal parts abrasive and self-assured. Th narrator’s seems to have had enough of all the standards and expectations placed on them.

The opening spoken line (when translated from Italian) feels like an immediate tonal indicator. This also allowing us to place ourselves in a world that feels like an amplified version of our own.

Translated:

Spoken: “…OMG…Facebook tells ger she is 175% altruistic!…”.

‘Amen’ seems to take its theme from unspoken hierarchies within a religious setting, where Faith intermingles with lifestyle and sets expectations onto someone. There’s this tone the song, almost gospel, that point to the posturing that’s untold but present.

“…”We don’t want to see you (what, what what?),

If not we suffer…”.

The first time these words are uttered, the narrator interrupts to interject with this sense of exasperation.

Translated:

Spoken: “…I mean, you don’t want to see me because if not YOU suffer?…”.

And now, almost as though they’re responding to this question, voices in unison respond: “…Amen…”. A full-stop of sorts, repeated over and over.

In saying all of this, ‘Amen’ by Francesca Pichierri also pulls in this self-affirming message. This tucked away in verses that cheekily poke at this duality, the narrator makes a bold, loud, statement.

Translated:

“…In this life,

So many ghosts.

And so much hypocrisy.

I try to save myself…

…I am someone…, I am always me!…”.

The song’s tone and strong message helps it feel immersive and incredibly thought-provoking.
