“A Soul’s True Face”, by Shine: A neat rock album!

Shine brings us a collection of songs christened “A Soul’s True Face”, encompassing genres and influences from soft rock to pop, and over the course of this 11-track collection, keep reading for my thoughts on the good work on this album!

The opener to this album is “Where You Gonna Go”, an upbeat number filled with twangs of the guitars and the thumps of the drums, setting the stage quite nicely for the themes that are to come over the rest of this album. The vocals are an easy standout, with the guitars coming in quite handy with their riffage and counter-melodies, wrapping the opener up quite neatly.

As we explore more songs throughout the album, we encounter “Treading Water”, a blues-rock inspired track with jazzy elements, with the open strung chords and a lot of air in the mix– creating this atmosphere of openness, easy listening; complemented extremely well by the vocals, which are a standout throughout “A Soul’s True Face”.

Some other special mentions from this album include “The Longest Battle” for its remarkable drum chops layered with the picked bass that shines through quite delightfully on the mix, as well as the closer, “Where You Gonna Stop”, with its saturated intro, with its overall more retro, turntable-esque vibe. The production has a part or two to play here, with effortless and elegant parlaying between the elements that pays off, creating a nice and cohesive sound. The imaging in the stereo is also worth a commendation for its clever, powerful use of space– and overall, it’s a delightful listen.

Overall, “A Soul’s True Face”, by Shine: This is a great listen, and a well-rounded album that is sure to capture your attention as you hit play, and then you hit rewind and play again. Check out the album here!
