Mexican singer-actress Dulce passed away this Christmas after battling complications arising from lung cancer. The Eighties pop star inspired generations with her hits like “Muñeca” and “Lobo”.

Her family took to Instagram to grieve the pop star’s death. “With deep sorrow and sadness, we confirm the sensitive passing of our beloved Dulce, an exceptional artist and a wonderful person who left an indelible mark in the hearts of all those who knew her,” reads the statement. They further asked for some privacy, some “space and understanding from the media and public opinion” to mourn in peace.

The National Actors Association confirm the news on X

The National Actors Association confirmed the news of death of Dulce, born Bertha Elisa Noeggerath Cárdenas. In a message posted on X, they said they deeply regret the death of Bertha Elisa Noeggarath Cárdenas aka ‘Dulce’, a member of the union. “Our condolences to her family, friends and colleagues. May she rest in peace,” the message further read.

Dulce’s team scheduled a public mass in honor of the singer at Mexico City’s Basilica of Guadalupe on Dec 27th at 6 pm local time.

Her sister Isabel Noeggerath wrote on Instagram, “Sister, you’re now with our mom in heaven, singing to her. I will miss you. Rest in peace. I love you.”

Previously on Dec 7th, Dulce’s team shared a press release informing fans that Dulce had undergone a pleuropulmonary decortication surgery. They had mentioned her health was “advancing favorably” back then. The procedure involved removing fibrous tissue compressing one of her lungs affected due to severe pneumonia. The goal was to restore its function so that she can get back to a normal life.

The singer had penned a note to inform fans that she had to postpone her shows one week before the surgery when she was hospitalized.  “I’m at peace, in good hands, and with faith that I’ll recover completely,” Dulce wrote.
