“Around Me”, by Sallok: Experimental electronic music!

Sallok, known as Sal, is an illustrious composer and producer from Sicily, whose early passion for music was sparked by vinyl records and his aunt’s piano performances. Trained in Classical and Jazz Piano, he later ventured into electronic music, drawing inspiration from club culture and bands like The Prodigy and Chemical Brothers — and on his latest project, “Around Me”, he fuses elements from all over the world of electronic music to present an eclectic fusion of genres — keep reading for my thoughts!

The opener to the album, “From The Darkness”, fuses a dark drum n’ bass sound with underground boiler room aesthetics to present a production that’s steeped in experimentation — be it the apt, fitting vocal lines, or the varied, energetic percussion, every bit of this track stands out in the best of ways, setting the stage quite solidly for what’s to come.

As we journey on over the course of “Around Me”, we encounter tracks like the title track, and “Till The Music Stop” — each of which stands out in its unique approaches to sound design and production; the former adopting a deep house sound with tons of atmosphere, and the latter treating the listener to a fiesta of energy with the warm stabs with the synths. We bid adieu to this album with “Yours”, a deep, atmospheric track that makes use of sterling arpeggiated synths that steal the limelight through this mix, while the vocals form an excellent support system, moving and driving the song forward effortlessly.

With solid production, innovative sound design, and crisp mixes that punch just the right elements through at just the right times, “Around Me” is quite the well-put-together EP that’s sure to keep you entertained thoroughly for its 8 tracks. This is a piece you wouldn’t want to miss! Check out the EP here:
