On ‘Realms of Solace’

1. Congratulations on the release of Realms of Solace! How does it feel now that the project is out?

Thank you! It definitely feels exciting to finally have Realms of Solace out in the world. This album, as well as In The Light Of Shadow, which I also just released, holds a lot of personal meaning for me. Together, it’s all a collection of stories, emotions, reflections, and discoveries. There’s always that moment of nervousness when you release something so close to your heart, but I’m hoping people out there connect with it as they discover it. I love the sense of sharing my work and having it hopefully resonate with others on a potent level. Aside from serving as my own means of self-therapy, that’s why I make music in the first place.

The EP’s Process

2. This EP’s sound feels simultaneously ethereal and floaty as well as deep and cinematic. Could you walk us through your creative process?

The creative process was all about finding balance – making music that simultaneously feels expansive and dreamlike but still carries depth, weight, and impact. I wanted it to feel looming and epic, larger than life… even “heavy” in places. I think of it in terms of “elements” and how they interact across the frequency spectrum. For instance, resonant, textural drum and bass elements bring in the “earth” element, while emotional chords and ethereal melodies evoke “air.” It goes much deeper than that, but finding ways for these elements to converse with and complement each other is always at the heart of how I work.

A big source of inspiration also came from watching movement artists and dancers while I worked. Their rhythm and flow gave me a lot to work with emotionally, helping me shape the energy of the tracks. I loved imagining how the music might move with them – it added a natural sense of motion to the tracks.

I’m also endlessly fascinated by blending contrasting sound palletes to create hybrid textures. Synths are a big part of what I do, but I love giving them more depth by layering acoustic elements or transforming world instruments and field recordings into something entirely new. For me, it’s all about finding harmony in contrast and pushing the boundaries of what sound can be. That constant discovery process is what keeps me inspired and excited to make tunes.

‘Realms of Solace’ & ‘In the Light of Shadow’

3. You’ve talked about how there’s a link between your previous project In the Light of Shadow and this one. Could you tell us a bit about what inspired the choice to separate them?

These two albums feel like they’re part of the same story, but they represent strikingly different chapters. In the Light of Shadow is about exploring duality – the push and pull between light and dark, mystery and clarity, tension and growth. It has a more dramatic and cinematic tone, like stepping into the unknown.

Realms of Solace, on the other hand, feels like a response to that exploration. It’s about finding some refuge and connection within sonic spaces, and accessing “hidden places” within imagination and inspiration. I separated them because I felt each theme deserved its own space as a dedicated release, but together they serve as a double-album of sorts. But, I wanted listeners to really experience the contrasts and transitions between the two. Together, they feel like a conversation – one album pushes you to question, and the other offers an answer of sorts.

4. Are there songs that tie the two projects together in some way?

Absolutely. Both albums share a common thread of emotional storytelling and world-building, and there are certain tracks that feel like bridges between the two. I’d say as an example, “The Air We Breathe” compliments “ReSonorum”, they feel like the’re cut from the same cloth of moody, ethereal lofi-houseyness with comparable sound-design approaches and melodic choices, whereas “Mystery Of Being” ties in with “Dream Seasons”, through a common underlying foundation of moody, dreamy, future garagey exploration. Just as some examples. There are common themes, but each track is also very much its own world and entity entirely.

5. In the same vein, what element/elements differentiates one project from the other?

The biggest difference lies in their concepts, emotional tone and intent. In The Light of Shadow is more about tension and discovery – it’s cinematic, moody, and driven by contrasts. It kind of invites you to jump into the unknown with the questions that arise.

Realms of Solace, however, is much more about resolution. I think it’s warmer, more reflective, and intentionally grounded. It’s about finding moments of escape, release and connection, especially when everything feels overwhelming. Both albums are explorations of duality, but they approach it from opposite perspectives – one asks, “What’s out there?” while the other responds, “Here’s what I’ve found.”

About A Path Untold

Start & Musical Journey

6. How did A Path Untold get its start? Tell us a bit about your musical journey up until this point.

I’ve been immersed in electronic music since 2001, obsessively into a wide range of genres – IDM, downtempo, breaks, drum and bass, house, future garage, ambient, you name it. Those early years were all about exploration and learning, pulling inspiration from every corner of the electronic music spectrum I could. Growing up in a very remote setting in the Appalachian Mountains of Western Maryland, I grew up more as an observer – like I was on the outside looking in, whether it was society, culture, or music scenes. I watched, listened and then became heavily involved in a lot of different scenes, but never quite belonged to any of them exclusively.

Between 2004 and 2016, I was part of a duo called Aligning Minds, where we produced, released, and toured together. I really experienced and was part of some incredible eras of electronic music and rave culture, sharing my original work with many diverse crowds. It was an incredible chapter, but by 2014, I felt the pull to branch out and explore new stylistic directions that didn’t quite fit within that project, and had a pretty distinct vision for it… A more introspective, personal and melodic approach that explored other spaces and possibilities. That’s when I started A Path Untold and it became my primary focus, as it is now.

Electronic music has always been more than just sound, or entertainment for me – it’s been a way of life, a form of self-therapy, a guiding purpose. That perspective is key to how I create. Every project I work on feels like a new step in defining what A Path Untold is about. It’s less about striving for perfection and more about getting as good as I can at just being honest in what I’m expressing, and following that wherever it takes me… I just try to make music that feels alive, vulnerable, and reflective. That’s what keeps this path endlessly compelling to me.

Creative Process

7. Could you give us an insight into your creative process?

It’s very much based on first and foremost, being in touch with what I’m really feeling. Everything stems from that. That may sound basic, but it’s worth mentioning. From there, I typically begin by finding or creating a sound that instantly resonates with the mood I’m trying to capture – something that just clicks when I hear it. After 25 years of making music, I’ve developed a sensitivity to recognizing those moments, like catching a perfect wave. From there, my first focus is crafting a chord progression that feels completely magnetic, however long that ends up taking… as it sets the emotional foundation for everything else. That step always gives me a sense of the story the music wants to tell.

Once the chords are in place, I start exploring melodic ideas, aiming for maximum expression and cohesion, from the note choices and rhythm to the sound design. I experiment with different articulations and layers until a key element or hook reveals itself. Throughout, I constantly check in with myself – does this feel right? Is it saying what it needs to say? The music begins to take shape organically, and I simply follow where it leads with an open, judgment-free mindset.

At that point, I lean into open-ended experimentation, layering possibilities and ideas to a point of excess. I know it when I hear it. Then comes the refinement process – paring everything down to the strongest, most essential elements. From there, I focus on making all the parts interact seamlessly and make sure it feels alive and expressive, everything is essential and “dancing” together. Sometimes it comes together quickly, but more often than not, it’s a meticulous and painstaking process. Regardless, it’s always about staying tuned into that emotional resonance and making choices that feel true to the music’s intent, trying to never lose sight of that – from the very beginning to the final mixdown and master.

A Message For Listeners & Aspiring Artists

For the Listeners

8. Do you have a message for your listeners?

To everyone who’s taken the time to listen to my music – thank you. I truly appreciate your support, there’s a lot of other music to listen to out there! These albums are deeply personal and have brought me a lot of meaning, so I hope they hit a mark that is relevant for you too.  They’re meant to be interpreted and shared in your own way. I hope they provide some inspiration, and that they have some staying power. Music is my favourite language, and I think it’s the most powerful one we have available to unite us. I’m grateful to be part of that shared experience.

For Aspiring Artists

9. Lastly, is there anything you would like to share? Especially a message for artists who are just starting out?

For anyone starting out, my advice is to keep an open mind and embrace the limitless possibilities of your imagination. Don’t get caught up in trends or external expectations – your unique voice is what truly matters. Experiment, take risks, stay bold, inject some danger in there, stick to your guns and don’t fear failure. Be a “music forward” artist, where the actual music is what matters most. It’s the “long game” in a world that often seeks instant gratification, but the fulfillment of discovering and expressing your truest creative self is worth it. Trust your instincts, stay curious, keep learning, and above all, keep creating. You don’t need to be better than anyone else – just focus on being the best version of YOU. The world needs your honest, unique art, so really try to make something one of a kind.
