‘The Algorythm’ by Erapwmdx is an alt-track that pushes the listener to question

‘The Algorythm’ by Erapwmdx examines the addicting, terrifying chaos of the digital space. The funky track opens with a steady, infectious beat that one could dance to. A distorted voice joins this beat, asking “hey, did you like my video?” The distortion, mixed in with the well-placed synths, and the upbeat drumming, has a distinct futuristic energy to it, while feeling at the same time very relevant to our current times.

The alt track is much more than a song, it’s a whole sonic experience. The lyrics, backed by the brilliant production, manage to send us spinning into the world of the song. It’s all the more powerful when you realise how brilliantly that world mirrors our own.

The Lyrics

The lyrics dive into the chaos and the pull of the digital space, speaking of the algorithm and what it’s become now. One walks away from the song with more questions. We built the algorithm. Do we also control it? Or does it now control us? Does the algorithm show me more of what I indicate I want to see? Do I see what it wants to push to me? This tug of war between us creating and controlling the algorithm and the mind we’ve built it to have on its own is central to the song.

Erapwmdx is a Colorado based artist and producer. It is clear he is unafraid of experimentation. His lyrics are poignant and purposeful without losing the lightness that lends itself so smoothly to the funky, otherworldly music. “The Algorythm” is almost escapist, with it’s atmospheric production. But instead it pulls us into reality, and prods us to ask questions of it.
