“Banks of Marble”, by Paul Cafcae: An easygoing jazz-infused banger!

Hailing from the former USSR, Cafcae began his musical journey as a scholar of folk accordion, later picking up the guitar during high school in Maryland. The whole track has this sound of downtempo blues and whiskey rock bleeding from it, with the melancholic melodies, and the vocal lines, which take on a flowy, easy to listen to avatar. There is also much to appreciate about the guitar work on this track, playing effortlessly in the registers be it down low, or high up; and the energy of the song is complemented rather well by the rest of the ensemble too. The energy floats up and down gently with the progressions from chorus to verse to chorus, and the listener is tied in for every bar of the journey.

There is power in the mix, too, with the low-end being present front and centre- and the articulation in the bass shines through elegantly, giving an element of groove and rhythm to “Banks of Marble” right from the very start. The bendy, fun playing of all the string instruments also contributes to the laid-back, relaxed nature of this song, making for a very pleasant listen that does not fade after tens of repeats.
