‘Be Someone’: Track-by-Track
‘Be Someone’: ‘Be Someone’ – ‘Falls Apart (Pick Yourself Up)
The titular track, ‘Be Someone’ kicks us off with quick-paced rock rhythms that take on a bright tone. The narrator seems to be running in place, with thoughts of not “…being another one…”, being the exception driving them to keep pace with the rhythm. “…It’s gotta be alright…”, they hope, while every element in the soundscape keeps pushing them to new heights.
‘Lie To Love You’ introduces us to hard-hitting synths and a solid sense of self, with a dark, unique vibe that layers on top of that pressured brightness from the first track. Its darker melodies bolster the song’s lyrics that demand a solid sense of respect. “…You got to prove (you’ll) see this through…but I can’t lie to love you…”.
‘Daylight’ feels a bit brighter, with melodies that take on subdued synths that evoke 80’s synthwave nostalgia. The quick-paced melodies feel like optimistic escape, while the lines sink deep into the present moment. “…Daylight, it feels so good I can’t stop now…If this ain’t real I can’t come down…’.
‘Chasing Tigers’ pull in ascending guitar melodies and bass-led syncopated synths to tells the story of a determined fool. “…‘Cause I’m a fool chasing tigers,…chasing waterfalls…”. “…Chasing dreams…”.
‘Falls Apart (Pick Yourself Up)’ is a definite highlight on the album. The melodies feel bright and soulful, almost gospel. This while the narrator recognises that they’ve fallen apart and doing their best to get back up.
“…I’m not so young to just carry on,
But I’m not…too old to give in…”.
There’s this bright, light sense of inspiration that prevails from this track on.

‘Be Someone’: ‘Rules Of The Heart’ – ‘Young Tomorrow’
‘Rules Of The Heart’ builds on an expansive synth-led melody before slowing down, while the narrator repeats what they say are “…the rules of the heart…” . The lines expand and contract, as though every line is being recited to memory. “…Don’t get hopeful, be optimistic…” and “…fight your feelings so you can see how brigh they burn…”.
We find our narrator in an expansive place, quiet contemplation filled with burning potential.
‘Senseless’ pulls in an intense, guitar and string-led to build a vulnerable soundscape. It oscillates between a contemplative emotionally charge and a minimal mood that moves like the lyrics do. “…Your love’s leaving me senseless….”.
‘No Talking (Just Love Me)’ uses its synths in an interesting and engaging way, building and building an energy-packed refrain and climax. Synths go haywire while our narrator sings about a lover they can’t seem to let go of.
“…It’s all worthless. No talking, just love me…I just can’t get enough…”.
‘Say My Name’ goes from quiet to anthemic with sharp, energetic percussion. The narrator is now resolved to simply cut this person off and out, while reclaiming their power. “…Don’t say we’re the same,…don’t say my name…”. The song builds to an epic, intense track that builds like an anthem.
The final song ‘Young Tomorrow’ begins slow, almost like an early The Beatles song before a rousing percussion injects the track with energy. The song serves as the resolution for the album, while the narrator finally settles in their sense of self. Someone on the outside but still a person.
“…I’ll be fine tomorrow…”.
Conclusion
‘Be Someone’ by Dozenz feels like a familiar journey, that deals with what feels like the pressures of external validation before moving inwards. Energy settles towards the end, not motivated by dimming pressure but by this bright sense of inner calling.
This makes the album feel like an energising, warm and comforting listen.
