‘Galaxy of Punks’ by Torrance is a 12-track alternative pop album that uses synths and elements of pop-rock to create a bright, intergalactic atmosphere. The lyrics on each track feel like declarations, set in extraterrestrial environments but talking about very grounded, human emotions.
Here, heartbreak is overcome, pain healed. Moments in time take to the skies, putting experience in perspective but not taking away from that emotional expansiveness.

‘Galaxy of Punks’: Track-by-Track
‘Galaxy of Punks’: ‘Cosmos’ – ‘Star Child’
We begin with the bright synth-pop expansive of ‘Cosmos’, a track that urges the listener out of their shell. The narrator wants to push towards new horizons and galaxies, wanting to see more. Because, “…there’s more to this life than your world…”. Steeped in promise and potential that only builds.
‘More Than Me’ is an empowering synth-driven that takes from the bright energy of the last track and bolsters it in this sense of self-belief. “…I’ve been standing in my way too long…”. This while the synths pulse in rhythms that feel like anticipation. The bridge breaks down, deliberately slowing to charge the track with emotion before pianos express this swell.
‘Wanderer’ takes on a bit of reggaeton beat, and builds on the empowered mood of the last song. The lyrics center around finding yourself and actually seeing your worth, “…I can’t believe I’m standing here…” and “…Like what you see? It’s not for free…”.
‘Get It Baby’ is bright while taking on this almost sympathetic tone. Its lyrics feel like encouraging nudges towards potential, “…get it baby (we’re gonna figure it out)…”. The highlight of the song, when the lyrics at bridge are at their lowest, our narrator simply asks themselves.
“…What would Jennifer Coolidge do?…”.
‘Megawatt Energy’ is an ode to love that feels right and even empowering. Its rock elements give it a grit that pumps it with unique energy with a pinch of vulnerability. “…As I kiss your lips, you begin to glow…you got that megawatt energy….”.
‘Star Child’ is a guitar-led track that feels like a loving tribute. An ode and promise to “…the kids (that) have the power to heal broken worlds…”. Its a touching promise to “…love you through space and time…”. A standout on the album.
‘Galaxy of Punks’: ‘Think I’m Falling’ – ‘The Mothership’
‘Think I’m Falling’ takes on a darker edge, with pulsating synths and a funky bass that help the soundscape take on this almost playful quality. On this track, the narrator must come to terms with falling in love and letting their guard down. “…Oh my God, I think I’m falling in love…”.
The titular track, ‘Galaxy of Punks’ is an energetic bird’s eye view of life on Earth, leaning into the perspective of aliens coming to the planet on vacation. Its a reflective track that takes on an edge of sarcasm, thought-provoking, catchy and fun. “… All these hits and bumps, we will never get enough…”.
‘Space Cadet (I’ll Walk The Moon)’ is a quick-paced, fun melody with lyrics that admits its shortcomings. The narrator means well, but is still taken by their impulses. Much like the melody that soars with no stop.
‘I Don’t Care Anymore’ is a groovy guitar-led number that is solid in its conviction to not pay heed to what anyone says. It’s lyrics are littered with instances where “well-wishers” were proved wrong. It relishes in this fact.
‘Blast Off’ is an acoustic guitar-led song that’s introspective and urges retrospection. “…Tell me what you really wanna do with your life…”. And eventually settles on fighting, “…fight for the star light in the dark parts of your mind…”.
The final track on the album, ‘The Mothership’ feels like a resolution, with subdued synths that help the track feel like the end. “…Let’s get to the mothership together,…”, the narrator says, hoping and sure that “…I won’t be alone tonight…”.
It beckons for home, a safe-space, where everything set off and began. A full-circle moment, from exploring the vast ‘Cosmos’ to finally coming home.
Conclusion
‘Galaxy of Punks’ by Torrance goes on a journey across the galaxies, finding familiar heart in experiences rooted far from their comfort zone. There’s growth in the narrator, experiences that they had alone and then shared with people who made a difference along their path.
The music aids this transition, with bright and lively moments that seem to perfectly embody the album’s intergalactic mood and tone.
